Good morning!
Did you know that February is National Cherry Month? It is. And thank goodness for that happy cherry reminder, because cherries are uber-nutritious, easily entering my Food Sass? Club of foods that are nutritious & delicious!
Yes, cherries have plenty of vitamins and minerals that they could brag about to their fellow produce cousins, but the real headliner for cherries is their phytochemical content. Their deep, red color is practically shouting to us as we pass by them in the market, ?Look at me! Look at me! I contain copious amounts of quercetin, ellagic acid, and perillyl alcohol.? To which you would reply ?WOW, that means that you are loaded with compounds that reduce chronic inflammation, fight cancer, and slow the aging process. Rock on with YOU, cherries!?
And then, you would go scoop up those fantabulous cherries, take them home, and make a smoothie:
Cherry Blast Shake
- 1 c. frozen cherries, preferably organic
- ? banana
- 1 scoop non-denatured whey protein powder
- 1 tsp. flax oil
- ? c. coconut milk, full-fat and unsweetened
- ? c. water
- 5 drops of liquid stevia or a drizzle of raw honey (optional)
Enjoy the blast of cherry-ness and have a splendiferous day!
The food you eat builds your body, every day, for better or for worse.? Make choices for health!
With love & antioxidant-power,
Laurie
