A WOW Night to Remember. And Mental Health.

October 15, 2019
With last week being Mental Health Week and October being Emotional Intelligence month, let's focus on YOUR emotional and mental well-being!

How was your weekend? Here in New England, the weather was a Perfect 10, to my way of thinking. I got a nature walk in on both Sunday and Monday and the leaves are rich in color, the air is dry and cool, and the sun still feels strong. Heaven! Why didn’t I walk on Saturday? I did, but instead of a nature walk, I walked through three different airports: Denver, Charlotte, and Boston. Huh? First let’s back up a bit.

The Wild World, Joyful Heart Book Launch Event

The launch event for my new book, Wild World, Joyful Heart, was a BLAST. There was dancing, a bit o’ Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch, storytelling, laughing, and some serious discussion about how to create health and joy in a wild world. With 130 fantabulous folks in attendance, we had a Q&A period that deeply enriched the evening, as folks posed many excellent questions. Attendees procured books (one person bought 12!) and I joyfully signed them. People connected and chatted about health and joy. I couldn’t imagine a better evening.

The Launch Event we co-created was the perfect sendoff for Wild World, Joyful Heart, as it makes its way out into the world. If you’re reading the book and loving it, I encourage you to write a review on Amazon or on Goodreads! Reviews are very important in getting the rally cry out to the folks that need this book?something to do with algorithms and other important things. You can learn more about that in this excellent and succinct article. Thank you, in advance!

Wild World, Joyful Heart Discussion Groups

I’m starting to receive requests from a few people who are interested in forming Wild World, Joyful heart groups to discuss the book while reading it and applying the tenets that resonate with them. To start, please email me at Laurie@LaurieWarren.com if you’re interested in joining/creating such a group in the Medfield/Westwood area. I will then connect you with the ring leader 🙂

I’m also willing and excited to come participate in one of your discussions, as my travel schedule allows. Fun! Group energy can be powerful!

Mental and Emotional Health

Okay. Back to why I did my walking in 3 different airports this past Saturday. Right after book launch, I embarked on a 4-day trip to honor mental health awareness week, with stops at WTSP10 in St. Petersberg, FL and Fox31 in Denver, CO. Both of the TV stations had great teams, and interesting conversations ensued at both. You can check out the WTSP10 clip on my YouTube channel, and the Fox31 Denver clip on their YouTube channel.

In the Denver interview, I shared two important points regarding mental health?including stress, anxiety, trauma, depression, burnout, and suicide:

  1. The most important first step in de-stigmatizing and healing mental health issues is open dialogue. No shame, no blame, and no marginalization. We need to move past the paradigm where going to the body doctor for the flu or a broken arm is an easy discussion to have with our boss or our peers, while going to the mind doctor (psychologist, psychiatrist) is not.
  2. Take the pressure off. We’ll be well-served to take the pressure off ourselves to be perfect people and perfect parents, and to take the pressure off our kids?culturally, and as parents?to be superstar amazing and “successful,” especially without ever defining what those words mean.

Mental and emotional health are important and rarely discussed. We are a BodyMindSpirit organism and if one aspect suffers, the whole organism suffers. Let’s deep-six stigma and get real about whole-person well-being.?More info and discussion can be found in those two clips. Enjoy!
