May 12, 2020
Mind Savvy® is all about using our mind as the bridge to health and joy, instead of the barrier. Today's post offers you an opportunity to support better health and one to support more joy, both by changing your mind.

I’ve got some Mind Savvy® to share with you today. And before I get to that, here’s your final reminder about …

Mind Savvy®:
Create Health and Joy in a Wild World

28toGreat™ is all about improving health and well-being. I so enjoy providing education, programs and support that helps folks lead a healthier and more joyful life. It winds my clock. It fills my sails. It rocks my world. So much so that I wrote a whole book about it, called Wild World, Joyful Heart: Unlock Your Power to Create Health and Joy.

A main tenet of said book is that our mind functions as either bridge or barrier to all that we desire, most of which can be summed up as either HEALTH or JOY. Our current COVID-19 Wild World environment is exactly the kind of time when we’re well-served—both individually and collectively—to tend the mind.

“Our typical pursuit of health, joy, and personal evolution finds us spending immense effort, time, and money trying to get something outside of ourselves to be different—events, circumstances, people, conversations—when what we need is right inside of us, which is the ability to tend our mind. As we tend our mind, there’s a softening. A blurring of the lines separating black from white, a shift in our view of self and other, a widening of our perspective, and a gentle attention to what’s sometimes called our inner life. In our inner life, opinions become questions and it becomes hard to pick a side. There, we see that changing the world is about changing our minds. We see that if we dig around in the dirt of failure, we find the seeds of success.”

Will we find the seeds of success in the pandemic? We can’t individually control what is transpiring right now—in government; in our country; in other countries; in the economy; in the non-compliance of others with safety measures; in finding ourselves working-from-home-without-daycare or out of work or working on the front lines of infection—but we can deeply influence HOW we THINK about it, which is really the whole deal. I can freak out and get angry, or I can respond to my environment in the best way I know how and see what happens.

We all sometimes do the former, but it’s the latter that serves us. Creating health and joy is not reserved for when-times-are-good. Based on our long list of preferences for what constitutes “good,” that might be a long wait. When our environment challenges us to be our best, that can often be the most ripe time for creating health and joy. Are you in?

In health and joy,
